Beginning Quilting 1 – This class will teach you the important basics of accurate piecing to make a simple table runner. You will learn how to measure and cut your fabrics, stitch using ¼” seams, sew squares into rows, and nest seams to sew rows together. You will also learn to read and follow a quilt pattern and get hand-outs of basic quilting terms.

Requirements:
Fabric Requirements: (10% discount on fabric required for the class if purchased in-store. Proof of class registration is required. - Fourteen (14) 5” charm squares or 55 assorted 2-1/2” print squares -Focus/novelty print: 1 fat quarter (18” X 22”) or two (2) 10-1/2” print squares *You can also use two squares from a pannel as long as they can be trimed to 10-1/2” squares Binding: 1/4 yard Backing 1/8” X 50” (can be pieced from 3/4 yard) You will not need these for the class, but will need to finish the project. Tip: You can use any fabric of your choice for this project. I can be seasonal, holiday, or colors that coordinate with your everyday decor. Basic Supplies: Sewing machine in good working order (with extra needles) Scissors or thread snips AND seam ripper Straight Pins 100% cotton thread (neutral color is fine for piecing) Cutting Mat (12” X 18” minimum) and rotary cutter Acrylic Ruler (6” X 12” minimum)

Barb has been sewing for 50 years (clothing and crafts) and started her quilting journey 14 years ago after retiring from a Computer Paraprofessional job at an elementary school in northern California. She especially enjoys traditional piecing and applique, and is a stickler for matching seams!
